How the board works

Eligibility for the July 2027 draft runs three ways. A high school player is eligible once he has graduated and has not enrolled full-time at a four-year college, which is why this board’s amateurs are all seniors in the high school class of 2027. A junior college player is eligible every year, at any age or class standing. A four-year college player is eligible once he is a junior or senior by NCAA class standing, or once he turns 21 by August 1 of the draft year even as a sophomore, the “draft-eligible sophomore” rule fixed to that date since the 2022 collective bargaining agreement. This board’s college players are entering their junior year in the 2026-27 school year, except Teddy Tokheim, a draft-eligible sophomore.

The board is set in September 2026, before the high schoolers’ final prep season and before the college players’ 2027 college season. High schoolers are ordered by recruiting and prospect-service rankings (Perfect Game, Prep Baseball Report) and by verified showcase and high school statistics. College players are ordered by their most recent completed college season, read against the level of competition, with recent injuries weighed against a track record. Tools and position value break close calls: a power arm or a catcher who can really throw is worth more than a similar hitter at a less scarce position.
